When is it enough?
After losing 318 pounds with gastric bypass surgery I found myself caught in between a rock and a hard place. When I went to the surgeon weighing 550lbs I was told the surgery would bring me to around 375lbs. No way! I wasn’t going to have myself cut open only to get to 375lbs! I knew this was an average figure and I was determined to beat the odds. And so I did! When I reached 250lbs I was considered a real success story for bar iatric surgery. I kept going until I reached 188 lbs, but I was not satisfied yet. I was thrilled with the way I looked and felt and don’t believe that the whole world needs to be a size 6 but I began to get obsessed with the scale. I was so afraid each day of going back over 200lbs that I would literally panic. I wanted some peace in my life and felt as though I had to weigh myself everyday just to feel sane.

I was told that after two years I would either maintain or gain back a small percentage of the weight I had lost. I had two choices if I wanted to lose more weight: I could get a surgeon to do a revision, where I would be cut open again and this time it would be even more dangerous. Or I could believe my fate was to gain back or lose no more. I chose to make a third choice; I would not focus on odds or statistics. Instead I would focus on me. I would follow a sensible food plan, add more exercise and most important be patient with myself. I decided if it took 2 years to lose the last 25lbs then so be it. I was determined.

One might say that it is expensive to have meals delivered to your home, but I had to face the fact that my binge foods and overall bad eating habits were far more costly.
